You have not had apple pie until you’ve tried apple crumb pie! This is one of my favorite dessert recipes handed down from my family. We serve the pie with a nice healthy chunk of aged sharp cheese and a large scoop of vanilla ice cream. I did some research and found that serving the pie with sharp cheese originates from Yorkshire, England. The famous saying goes: “Apple pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze.”
PIE CRUST:
2 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
1 egg
2 tbls water
1 tbls dark vineger
Mix last four ingredients together then mix in flour and salt
until blended, form a ball in floured hands devide in two parts sprinkle flour on counter and roll dough out with a rolling pin that is rolled in flour so it dosent stick to pastry. Place in 8 or 9 inch pie plate.
FILLING:
4 large apples (tart)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamin
Mix altogher in a bowl and then spoon into raw piecrust.
TOPPING:
1/2 CUP SUGAR
3/4 cup flour
1/3 cup refigherated oleo (not too soft)
Mix sugar and flour in a bowl and then cut in oleo with a fork until crumbly, sprinkle over apples.
Bake in oven at 400 degrees for 40 to 50 mins. until lightly brown.
Serve with aged sharp cheddar cheese and vanilla ice cream!
