Here’s another awesome recipe to make and bring to an outdoor bbq party! It’s called Calico Beans. This recipe has been handed down from my family. It was a staple dish at all our family reunions and wedding receptions. You can cook it in a slow cooker. The one I feature below is perfect because it comes with a portable transport bag so you can easily transport the food to your next party!

slow cooker

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb. bacon, cooked, then chopped into bits
1 lb. ground meat, browned (hamburger)
1 large onion, chopped
1 cup ketchup
1 tsp. mustard
1 tsp. vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 cans pork & beans, drained
1 can butter beans, drained
1 can kidney beans, drained

DIRECTIONS:

Brown the bacon, ground beef, and chopped onions in a saute pan. Combine drained ground beef mixture in a slow cooker along with the rest of the ingredients. Cover and cook on low for about 3-4 hours.
