Lahmacun – Turkish Pizza
The first time I traveled to Istanbul, Turkey I sampled the lahmacun. Its sort of like a very thin crust pizza without the sauce. It’s topped with minced lamb or beef and a mixture of onion, tomato and spices. It’s sometime served rolled up with pickles or vegetables. I really love the simple oven they use to cook the lahmacuns in this video.

La Tomatina happens each year on the last Wednesday of August in the Spanish town of Buñol in the Valencia region. Some 20-40,000 tourists show up for this intense food fight festival of tomato throwing. All week long the festival features parades, dancing, music, and fireworks. There’s even a paella cooking contest the night before the tomato fight.
